How U.S. Marshals Helped Nab Alleged NorthPark Shooters

The U.S. Marshals usually work behind the scenes to catch dangerous fugitives.  Their work rarely appears in the news, but they have task forces in Dallas and Tarrant counties, made up of federal agents and police officers from various cities.

They are trained to find people who don’t want to be found, often dangerous criminals who are on the run.

So when Dallas Police got the names of two suspects in the high-profile NorthPark Center robbery from last month, in which a woman was shot in the face, they turned the case over to the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

Sure enough, the task force found the suspects within hours.

The detailed press release is below.

Monday, July 7, 2008, around 5:00pm, Strike Team Officers from the Dallas Fort Worth Fugitive Apprehension Team (DFW FAST), arrested Demond Stuard at 10330 Sandra Lynn in Dallas, Texas.  Three hours later, officers arrested Anton Wallace at the same address.  Demond Stuard and Anton Wallace are suspects in an attempted robbery, car-jacking, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that occurred May 16, 2008, when Stuard and Wallace approached a female in her vehicle in the parking lot of the North Park Mall shopping center in Dallas.  When the victim resisted the attempted robbery and car-jacking, the suspects shot her, hitting her in the face.  They then fled the scene.

DFW FAST, a United States Marshals sponsored fugitive task force, was contacted by the Dallas Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit for assistance in locating the two suspects after receiving a tip as to their identity.  The North Park Mall was offering a $50,000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
